OVERTURISME: Maya Bay gikk fra ukjent paradis til turistattraksjon over natta. Opp til 5000 turister besøkte stranden daglig.

Den idylliske stranden i Maya Bay på Ko Phi Phi-øya i Krabi, Thailand, ble berømt etter storfilmen «The Beach» med Leonardo DiCaprio i 2000.Før filmen var bukta et paradis omringet av høye klipper, frodig planteliv, kritthvit strand og glassklart vann. Koraller og dyrelivet i sjøen blomstret. Bare de aller færreste kom seg dit med private båter.Men filmen gjorde stranden verdenskjent i rekordfart. Så mange som 5000 turister daglig har vært en stor belastning for økosystemet.
