Afghanistan vil løslate sentrale Taliban-fanger i fangeutveksling

Den afghanske regjeringen vil løslate tre høytstående Taliban-fanger i bytte mot en kidnappet amerikaner og australier.

De tre Taliban-fangene er Anas Haqqani, som er lillebroren til Sirajuddin Haqqani, samt to andre høytstående personer i Taliban. De skal løslates fra Bagram-fengslet i en fangeutveksling.

Sirajuddin Haqqani er leder for det mektige Haqqani-nettverket og nestleder i Taliban.

Fangene vil bare bli løslatt dersom Taliban returnerer to professorer ved The American University i Kabul i Afghanistan, den amerikanske statsborgeren Kevin King og australske Timothy Weeks, som ble tatt til fange i august 2016.

Det var Afghanistans president Ashraf Ghani som tirsdag kunngjorde fangeutvekslingen i en uttalelse fra presidentpalasset.
