USAs president Donald Trump har besøkt ruinene av byen Paradise, som er mer eller mindre nedbrent som følge av skogbrannene i California.

Trump landet ved 10-tiden lørdag lokal tid ved Beale Air Force Base like nord for Sacramento, der han ble tatt imot av Californias guvernør Jerry Brown og påtroppende guvernør Gavin Newson.

Utslettet

De to demokratene var sammen med Trump mens han reiste rundt og besøkte de store områdene som har blitt slukt av flammene fra to omfattende skogbranner i den sørvestlige delstaten.

Blant de første områdene Trump besøkte var byen Paradise. Flesteparten av de 71 menneskene som har omkommet i skogbrannene er funnet der.

Byen ble mer eller utslettet allerede i løpet av 8. november, dagen da den første og største brannen brøt ut.

– Dette er sørgelig å se, sa Trump, mens han stirret ut over en gate fylt av smeltede biler, trestubber og ruiner av nedbrente hus.

– De forteller meg at dette ikke en gang er like illle som det er i andre områder. De sier at noen områder er verre enn dette, at det bare er aske igjen, fortsatte Trump.

1000 savnet

Før han forlot Det hvite hus lørdag morgen, ble presidenten orientert om at over 1000 mennesker er savnet i delstaten.

– Det later til at det er flere savnede enn det noen overhodet trodde var mulig, sa Trump.
